These days there are many tools for learning English available both online and offline. The trouble is that with so many things on the market it’s difficult to know which direction to learn in or which tools are best. I would like to outline some of the best tools for learning English available to learners in 2021.
1. Duolingo
One of the first names that always comes up when thinking about learning any language would be Duolingo. Duolingo is an application that helps learners improve both grammar and general knowledge of any language. It’s English course is a good place to start learning for those who already have a rough understanding of the English language. The application has both free and paid versions and allows users to earn rewards and also measure their progress against other users who are also learning English. This means that Duolingo is a great option for those who find it difficult to find motivation. It’s available on both android and Iphone.
2. Anki
Anki is an application that I couldn’t live without & would recommend to anyone learning a language, not just English. It allows you to make decks of flashcards to help with memorising vocabulary. I think that Anki is one of the best flashcards applications due to how easy it is to master and get used to. I often use Anki to help with learning any language & would recommend you do the same. The application has both free versions and paid versions but I find that the free version is good enough for me.
3. Online English Lessons
For those who prefer to learn with a teacher then learning English with a teacher online is for you. This means that you’ll always learn in a way that you feel comfortable learning in as well as making sure you improve conversational skills and more. Platforms like Native English Lessons offer the chance to learn English with native speaking teachers while learning about topics that you love and enjoy. Learning online can be great for those who don’t have the time to travel to a teacher for face to face lessons. You can learn from home in an environment where you feel comfortable and can take lessons as and when it works for you.
4. BBC Learning English
For those with an interest in British English and British culture, I would recommend BBC’s learning English program called “BBC Learning English”. This is a great site where you can learn and improve all aspects of your English through videos and articles as well as grammar and understanding lessons. The best part about this is that it’s free. There is also an application available on android and Iphone which is completely free to use for all. This is a great way to prepare for an IELTs test or for those who want to travel in Europe where UK English is more common.
5. Nativecamp
This is a great application that is available to learners in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China. The application has a monthly subscription fee which allows you to take English lessons with non native speakers. It also allows you to book lessons with native English speakers from the US, UK, Australia & more. It’s a great option if you want to learn from home. Nativecamp also provides a lot of great material for learners including textbooks on Grammar, Pronunciation & many more. This is also a great option for young children who want to learn English.
Overall, It’s up to you to find the applications and learning tools that work for you but we hope this list can help you make a decision as to which applications will work for you.
